Irish Sea Moss or Chondrus Crispus, is consumed primarily in one of two different forms: capsules or sea moss gel. While it is possible to purchase already made gel, most users make their own sea moss gel at home. Making the gel is a fairly simple process; however, it does involve soaking dried sea moss for at least 12 hours but preferably, overnight. In this article we are sharing Maju’s favorite recipe for making sea moss gel at home. By adding some citrus flavors, this recipe brings the sea moss gel experience up a notch by taking your taste buds from the sea to the seashore.

Cook: 10 mins
Total: 24 hrs 10 mins
Yield: 1 cup sea moss gel (approximately eight2 Tbsp servings)

Ingredients:

.5 oz Maju Raw Purple Sea Moss

1 lemon

1 lime

Water

Instructions:

Step 1: Using a kitchen scale, measure out .5 oz of dried sea moss.

Step 2: Rinse the sea moss well, rubbing between your hands to remove any natural debris.

Step 3: In a large bowl, submerge sea moss with filtered water until fully covered.

Step 4: Slice lemon and lime and add to the bowl of water with sea moss.

Step 5: Place bowl in refrigerator and let it soak for 24 hours or overnight. The longer it can soak, the better.

Step 7: Rinse the sea moss one more time.

Step 8: Place sea moss in high-powered blender.

Step 9: Blend sea moss with 1 cup reserved water until desired consistency is reached adding more water if needed.

Step 10: Store in an airtight container (preferably glass) and refrigerate. Sea moss gel can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Step 11: Enjoy by itself or make a delicious sea moss gel smoothie!
